Community Plans Reception for League of American Bicyclists
Local bicycling volunteers to be recognized

Representatives from the League of American Bicyclists will be visiting Davis this week to meet with city staff, elected officials, bicycle advocacy groups, UC Davis, the business community, and the public.  Their mission to Davis is to review our draft Beyond Platinum — Bicycle Action Plan and to understand our community’s aspiration to improve cycling for Davis’ residents, students, and visitors.

Members of the public are welcome to join the reception for the League of American Bicyclists, to thank our bicycle volunteers, recognize 2012 accomplishments, and to think big over the coming years as we begin the transformation of becoming a world-class, bicycle friendly community.  The reception will be held at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame on Wednesday, December 12th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm and will include refreshments.

City of Davis Joins Forces to Experiment with New Bicycle Parking Technology

The City of Davis has teamed up with Davis Downtown and Park-a-Bike – bike rack company to experiment with a new, innovative technology of bicycle parking.

The new Park-a-Bike units will be the first of their kind in the City of Davis and will offer an educational component for cyclists and a unique branding opportunity for the Davis Downtown Business Association.   A QR code will allow Park-a-Bike rack users the option of learning more about cycling in downtown, including bicycle safety information, maps, city events, and features an animated bicycle parking video to teach cyclists how and where to safely and effectively park and lock a bicycle.

The City of Davis placed an order for 25 Varsity Docks (50 bikes secured), which will be strategically located throughout the downtown area.  The first install will be in front of the Davis Beer Shoppe (211 G Street) and will take place Monday, December 10th.
